Fire & Emergency Services Master’s Degree Programs
As a disaster threatens the public and communities nearby, a great deal is expected of the emergency services management personnel on hand. In addition to understanding the needs of the people and community at risk during such a situation, an emergency services leader is expected to know the needs of his/her team of personnel as well, serving as a motivator and go-to for information and direction. Knowing the risk associated with any situation, as well as the proper methodology toward minimizing those risks is also crucial. The study of Fire and Emergency Services is designed to create just that type of manager, resulting in someone who is educated and multi-faceted not only in their knowledge, but in their approach to handling situations of varying scale and consequence.
A typical Fire and Emergency Services Master’s program will result in a Master of Science degree, generally focused on efficiently managing such emergency situations. With an expected program completion of approximately three years, such a program teaches would-be leaders to be prepared for the unpredictable and ready to properly handle often dangerous and sometimes catastrophic situations. Coursework often includes the study of emergency management, terrorism and homeland security, risk management, and special topics in criminology.
